I have been rebuilding Ruckstells for the Model T Ford for the past several years and as of November 2011 have rebuilt about 60, including several new ones that I have assembled for other people. I will rebuild your Ruckstell or will sell you a new "kit" as manufactured by Chaffins Garage in California; assemble a new unit using a new kit and other new parts available + good used parts I have in stock such as the axle housing, driveshaft tube, etc to provide you with a complete Ruckstell ready to put under your car and drive away. I sometimes have rebuilt units in stock ready to go. I also often have used complete Ruckstells for sale and can supply good used parts.
I will sell you a kit of good used parts so that you can assemble a Ruckstell using your good parts. See the prices below.
Here is a general price list of cost as of September 15, 2013:
NEW assembly with every new part available + the best used parts I can find. New Ruckstell kit, all new axles, USA standard or 3:1 ring and pinion, best quality roller pinion bearing, best quality new drive shaft, best used roller bearings or safety outer bearings (extra cost) available, best grease seals, etc. Includes SKF American made thrust bearing. New or mint U-joint. The best that can be assembled from new parts and the best used parts I have. Includes radius rods, brake backing plates on big drum, etc. Includes long nose shift lock for either small or large drum style differential. Lubricant drain plug added to right housing. Should be good for 50,000 trouble free miles. $4500 for standard outer bearings, extra cost for safety outer bearings depends on brand selected. Right side housing is sand blasted and cleaned inside, driveshaft tube & radius rods sandblasted, entire unit primed with good quality primer. Ready to paint and install your brakes and wheels and roll under the car.
Note that NO shifter is included since many people want a left hand shifter or one of their own design. If you buy a new Ruckstell I will sell you a new original style center shifter and the rod for $100. Also, due to the new disk brakes that are out, the unit does NOT come with brake cams and bushings unless you request them. The old ones are removed but no new ones are installed unless you tell me you want them. I do not have brake shoes and do not sell accessory brakes of any brand. Call or email with questions.
PREMIUM REBUILT assembly with nearly every part new, much the same as above but with some used and/or rebuilt parts, new USA standard ring and pinon, new thrust bearing, new bronze plate and thrust plate, new axles, good used roller bearings, new sleeves, roller pinion driveshaft bearing, new drive shaft, rebuilt long nose shift lock for either small or large drum style differential, good U-joint, best quality outer seals, etc. All internal parts brought back to quality standards, new parts fitted as needed. Radius rods included. Sandblasted and primed, ready for final paint. Should be good for many thousands of trouble free miles. $3850.00 Note that NO shifter is included since many people want a left hand shifter or one of their own design. If you buy a premium rebuild Ruckstell I will sell you a new original style center shifter and the rod for $100. Also, due to the new disk brakes that are out, the unit does NOT come with brake cams and bushings unless you request them. The old ones are removed but no new ones are installed unless you tell me you want them. I do not have brake shoes and do not sell accessory brakes of any brand. Call or email with questions.
DRIVER assembly with good used parts, upgrade roller pinion bearing, used drive shaft & axles, good used or new thrust bearing, good used or new ring and pinion, etc. All new sleeves and good roller bearings. Short nose shift lock, long nose rebuilt shift lock is $200 extra. Housings are cleaned but are not sandblasted and not painted or primed. This is a good serviceable unit but there is a reason the premium rebuild costs $1000 more. Should be good for many miles of trouble free service. $2750 Due to the new disk brakes that are out, the unit does NOT come with brake cams and bushings unless you request them. The old ones are removed but no new ones are installed unless you tell me you want them.
I do not have brake shoes and do not sell accessory brakes of any brand. Call or email with questions.
Kits: The kit includes ONLY the parts necessary to convert your standard differential to a Ruckstell unit. It includes the left side housing, the gear reduction unit, ball bearing, shift lock and shifter. You must supply all other parts. You will need axles, sleeves, roller bearings, ring and pinion set, drive shaft and drive shaft tube, universal joint, radius rods, etc. If you have a rebuilt differential now, this is an economical way to go, if you do not have a good unit now, you should look at buying a complete assembled unit.

Contact me to see what I have. I am not doing as much with Ruckstells as I previously did but still have some parts and at times have a used one for sale.
HERE IS A VERY NICE ONE I HAVE FOR SALE AS OF 11-15-2013. I HAD BEEN SAVING THIS ONE FOR MY SELF AND DECIDED I WILL NOT BE USING IT SO IT IS FOR SALE. It is as nice an original as I have ever seen -- not perfect and not new but very nice. It is all complete except for the shift lock, which was broken. The gears are good, the bronze plate is good, the bearing is OK but probably should be upgraded to a new one, the thrust plate shows a little wear -- you might want to replace that. Other than that and a set of pins for the pinion gears it should be ready to go together. I bead blasted all the internal parts, checked the gear teeth, etc. I have a choice of housings with it. I have an early small drum with the lip on the driveshaft mounting flange or a later small drum without the lip. You choose. The housings have not been cleaned, you will have to do that.
List price on a new kit like this is close to $2000. This one is $1250 plus shipping. Take a look at the pics and see if it is something you can use. Check only, no paypal on this one unless you pay the fees.
Shipping is one large flat rate Priority box for $20 and one $30 housing via cheap mail.
You will need to add a ring and pinion, all the bearings and sleeves, axles and gears, etc.
I also have several original TT units stored at my ranch in eastern Montana. They are for sale as is, I do not rebuild those units. Prices from $250-500 for the used ones.
SHIPPING INFORMATION: I have shipped complete units to most states in the US, a couple provinces in Canada and two countries in Europe. I take it to the freight dock and they take it from there. Shipping in the US runs from a minimum for about $125 in the west to closer to $300 in the east and south. I recently sent one to Texas, it was $189. The one that went to Germany was about $450. In addition to the freight charges, there is a $75 crating charge. I build a fully enclosed wooden crate to protect the unit during shipping. Obviously, if you pick the unit up there is no crating charge.
